An Animated Short by Poptastic Tees’ resident Illustrator

Please allow me to share with you an animated short by my husband Arnold who’s responsible for 90% of the illustrations you see on Poptastic Tees and all of its related stores. He’s actually a fantasy artist and graphic novelist by profession but he’s  been dabbling in filmmaking and, just recently, animation because he has long been frustrated with the static quality of storytelling through comics.

The film is only 4 minutes long although it took him 2 weeks to make it and it features his original character Andong Agimat (in English, Andong of the Talisman) from his graphic novel of the same title.  The agimat or magical amulet has been part of folklore in the Philippines since the Spanish occupation and these little charms are believed to render the wearer / bearer invincible. In his graphic novel, the character Andong is armed with such a talisman and so he is able to ward off evil-doers in the city. The story in the video isn’t in his novel so just think of it “as a day in the life of Andong Agimat”.

He has no background nor previous experience in animation at all so I’m very proud of him for being able to pull it off on his own.
